Note for parents

What’s happening

Your child notices when another kid is upset and might try to comfort them. That's empathy, and it's real. Sentences are four to five words long now. They understand the concept of "same" and "different," which makes simple matching games fun. Catching a bounced ball is a new coordination milestone.

For you

Your child comforted a crying friend. You didn't teach them a lesson about empathy. You showed them what it looks like, and they absorbed it.
