Note for parents

Keep an eye on

SIDS risk is highest between one and four months. Keep following safe sleep guidelines every single time. Tummy time is important for building neck and shoulder strength, but always supervise it closely. Your baby should never sleep on their stomach. If you're using a baby carrier, make sure baby's airway is clear and their chin isn't pressed to their chest.

For you

That first smile isn't gas. It's real. Your baby is smiling at you because you are the center of their entire world. Let that sink in on the hard days.

Urgent

SIDS prevention

SIDS risk peaks between 1-4 months. Room-share but don't bed-share. Use a pacifier at sleep time. Keep room at comfortable temperature, don't overdress baby.

What to do

Place baby's crib or bassinet in your room for at least the first 6 months. Offer a pacifier at nap and bedtime. Dress baby in a sleep sack instead of loose blankets. Keep the room at a comfortable temperature (68-72F).

Caution

Tummy time supervision

Tummy time should always be supervised while baby is awake. Baby should never sleep on their stomach. Start with short sessions and build gradually.

What to do

Place baby on their tummy for short supervised sessions (3-5 minutes) several times a day while awake. Stay with baby at all times during tummy time. If baby falls asleep on their stomach, gently roll them onto their back.
